O'Rourke / Coley Family Funds
Yatooma's Foundation for the Kids, the only charitable organization in Metro Detroit dedicated solely to helping children and famillies who have lost a parent, has established two funds to provide financial assistance to the two families affected by the shooting of a West Bloomfield police officer earlier this week.
One fund, the Yatooma's Foundation for the Kids O'Rourke Family Fund, benefits the family of Officer Patrick O'Rourke, who was shot and killed while responding to a call on the evening of September 9, 2012. O'Rourke was the father of four young children.
The other fund, the Yatooma's Foundation for the Kids Coley Family Fund, benefits the family of Ricky Coley, who police say shot Officer O'Rourke before killing himself after a standoff with police. Coley was the father of a young child and the family was reportedly suffering financial hardship before his death.
"These two funds help fulfill our mission to the community at a time of need for two grieving families," said Norman Yatooma, Founder and President of Yatooma's Foundation for the Kids. "We started this Foundation in memory of my father, who was a victim of a violent crime, and hope to help bring the community together with the much-needed support following a heartbreaking tragedy that has spurred so many emotions throughout the community."
