OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Reporting to: Board of Directors

Job Summary: The Operations Director provides organizational leadership, program development, resource development, financial and human resources administration, and community outreach, and will be responsible for supervision of expansion to other regions across the nation.

Primary Functions:

  1. Provide leadership and direction in the development of programs, services, and strategic plans, fulfilling the organization’s mission and meeting its annual goals and objectives.
  2. Strengthen existing relationships while forging new relationships with the philanthropic and corporate community, governmental officials, community service agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
  3. Support the Board by keeping it informed and engaged and by facilitating all board and committee meetings.
  4. Hire, supervise and manage the staff.
  5. Develop and monitor the budget, regularly analyze data and manage financial challenges as they arise.
  6. Develop and implement a plan to raise increased funds while broadening and diversifying the donor base beyond the Foundation’s heavy reliance on events and sponsorships. Build successful annual fund and major gifts programs, including private foundation grants.
  7. Play a leadership role in the annual Champion’s Event. Assist in planning and coordinating the overall special events program.
  8. Maintain strong relationships with in-kind supporters and vendors.
  9. Play a leadership role in advancing the Foundation’s national expansion plan.
  10. Build a program for the recruitment, training and recognition of volunteers.
  11. Establish, implement and maintain donor records to ensure the quick retrieval of accurate donor data and giving history.
  12. Ensure that job descriptions are periodically updated, that employees receive annual performance evaluations and that the Foundation adheres to sounds human resource practices.
  13. Develop and implement internal processes and policies in accordance with best practices.
  14. Ensure that all governmental, legal and financial reporting obligations are met on a timely basis.

Qualifications:

  1. Five-seven years in a leadership position in a non profit or similar organization. Experience in leading, building and growing an organization is highly desirable.
  2. Effective leadership skills with a particular emphasis on clear and effective oral and written communications.
  3. Proven ability in fundraising and in relationship-building with donors, community leaders and volunteers.
  4. A track record in identifying critical issues and formulating strategies in a non profit setting.
  5. Experience in all aspects of fiscal management.
  6. Experience supervising a staff of professional, administrative and clerical personnel.
  7. Experience working with volunteer boards and in fostering a cooperative environment necessary to fulfill the organization’s mission.
  8. Bachelor’s Degree.

  3. Ability to set challenging but obtainable goals, benchmark progress and build upon success to create a sense or organizational momentum. Willingness to be held accountable for results.
  4. Loyalty and the capacity to work in a complex and demanding environment and still get the job done. Willingness to take the extra step in working with others – understanding different temperaments and idiosyncrasies yet finding a way to collaborate and build a sense of partnership in accomplishing great things.
  5. Ability to solve problems, overcome obstacles and deal with occasional frustrations in a common sense, unemotional manner.
  6. Sense of humor.
